The Piper PA-28 Cherokee is a series of Light Four Seated Aircraft. In 1967 Piper first introduced PA-28R-180 Cherokee Arrow which featured a constant speed propeller and retractable landing gear. The DC-6B was the epitome of the radial piston engine passenger aircraft. Powerful, noisy and smoky on engine start-up, the DC-6B was flown all over the world and opened up air travel on every continent. Originally designed in 1944 as the XC-112 military transport aircraft, the DC-6B was reworked into a civilian aircraft in order to compete with Lockheed’s Constellation. The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by the European corporation Airbus, a subsidiary of EADS. It is the world's largest passenger airliner and due to its size, many airports have had to expand their facilities to properly accommodate it. Designed to challenge Boeing's monopoly in the large-aircraft market, the A380 made its maiden flight on 27 April 2005 and entered initial commercial service in October 2007 with Singapore Airlines.

The aircraft was known as the Airbus A3XX during much of its development, before receiving the A380 designation. The A380's upper deck extends along the entire length of the fuselage, with a width equivalent to a wide-body aircraft. They are short- to medium- range, narrow-body jet airliners produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

The Classic series was introduced as the 'new generation' of the 737. Produced from 1984 to 2000, 1,988 aircraft were delivered. Originally developed as a shorter, lower-cost twin-engine airliner derived from Boeing's 707 and 727, the 737 has developed into a family of nine passenger models with a capacity of 85 to 215 passengers. The 737-400 design was launched in 1985 to fill the gap between the 737-300 and the 757-200, and competed with the Airbus A320 and McDonnell Douglas MD-80. It stretched the 737-300 another 10 ft (3.45 m) to carry up to 168 passengers. It included a tail bumper to prevent tailscrapes during take-off (an early issue with the 757), and a strengthened wing spar.

The prototype rolled out on January 26, 1988, and flew for the first time on 19 February 1988. The aircraft entered service on September 15, 1988, with launch customer Piedmont Airlines (25 aircraft ordered). The 737-400F was not a model delivered by Boeing but a converted 737-400 to an all cargo aircraft. Master textures by Kyle Schurb. The Boeing 737 Next Generation (Boeing 737NG), is the name given to the -600/-700/-800/-900 series of the Boeing 737. They are short- to medium-range, narrow-body jet airliners. The first NG to roll out was a −700, on December 8, 1996.

This aircraft, the 2,843rd 737 built, first flew on February 9, 1997 with pilots Mike Hewett and Ken Higgins. The 737-700 was the first of the Next Generation series when launch customer Southwest Airlines ordered the variant in November 1993.

The variant was based on the 737-300 and entered service in 1998. It replaced the 737-300 in Boeing's lineup, and its direct competitor is the Airbus A319.

It typically seats 137 passengers in a two-class cabin or 149 in all-economy configuration. The 757-200SF, a conversion of passenger 757-200s for cargo use, entered service with DHL Aviation in 2001. Modifications by Boeing Wichita in Kansas included the removal of passenger amenities, main deck structural reinforcement, and the installation of a 757-200PF forward fuselage section with a port-side cargo door.

The forward two entry doors are retained, resulting in a main deck cargo capacity of 14 pallets, which is one less than the 757-200PF. Environmental controls can be fitted for animal cargo, and rear exits and window pairs are retained on some aircraft. Besides Boeing, Israel Aerospace Industries and ST Aerospace Services have also handled 757-200SF conversions. In September 2006, FedEx Express announced a US$2.6 billion plan to acquire over 80 converted 757 freighters to replace its 727 fleet.

The stretched 777-300 was designed as an A-market replacement for 747-100s and 747-200s. The Boeing 777 is a long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner and is the world's largest twinjet. The 777F Freighter is an all-cargo version of the twinjet, and shares features with the -200LR; these include its airframe, engines, and fuel capacity.

With a maximum payload of 226,000 lb (103,000 kg), cargo capacity is similar to the 243,000 lb (110,000 kg) of the 747-200F. The freighter has a range of 4,900 nmi (9,070 km) at maximum payload. As the aircraft promises improved operating economics compared to existing freighters, airlines have targeted the 777F as a replacement for older freighters including the 747-200F, DC-10, and MD-11F. Fun Fact: On August 21, 1961, a Douglas DC-8 broke the sound barrier at Mach 1.012 (660 mph/1,062 km/h) while in a controlled dive through 41,000 feet (12,497 m) and maintained that speed for 16 seconds. The flight was to collect data on a new leading-edge design for the wing, and while doing so, the DC-8 became the first civilian jet – and the first jet airliner – to make a supersonic flight and was accompanied by an F-104 Starfighter chase aircraft flown by Chuck Yeager. The Douglas DC-8 (also known as the McDonnell Douglas DC-8) is a four-engine long-range narrow-body jet airliner built from 1958 to 1972 by the Douglas Aircraft Company.

Launched after the competing Boeing 707, the DC-8 nevertheless kept Douglas in a strong position in the airliner market, and remained in production until 1972 when it began to be superseded by larger wide-body designs, including the Boeing 747, McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. The DC-8's design allowed it a slightly larger cargo capacity than the 707 and some re-engined DC-8s are still in use as freighters. DC-8 Series 62: The long-range Series 62 appeared in April 1967. It had two 40-inch (1.0 m) plugs fore and aft of the wing taking overall length to 157 feet 5 inches (47.98 m), and a number of modifications to provide greater range. 3 feet (0.91 m) wingtip extensions reduced drag and added fuel capacity, and Douglas redesigned the engine pods, extending the pylons and substituting new shorter and neater nacelles, all in the cause of drag reduction. The 18,000 lb JT3D-3B was retained but the engine pylons were redesigned to eliminate their protrusion above the wing and make them sweep forward more sharply, so that the engines were some 40 inches (1.0 m) further forward. The engine pods were also modified with a reduction in diameter and the elimination of the -50 and -61 bypass duct.

The changes all improved the aircraft's aerodynamic efficiency. The DC-8 Series 62 is slightly heavier than the -53 or -61 at 335,000 pounds (151,953 kg), and able to seat up to 189 passengers, the -62 had a range with full payload of about 5,200 nautical miles (9,600 km; 6,000 mi), or about the same as the -53 but with 40 extra passengers.

Also available as the cargo door equipped convertible -62CF or all cargo -62AF. Production included 51 DC-8-62s, 10 -62CFs, and 6 -62AFs. As of July 2016, there were three DC-8s (all variants) in commercial service with CFS Air Cargo (2) and Trans Air Cargo Service (1).

It also features an all-digital glass cockpit that decreases the flight deck crew from the three required on the DC-10 to two by eliminating the necessity for a flight engineer. The cockpit design is called Advanced Common Flightdeck and is shared with the Boeing 717. The MD-11 was launched on December 30, 1986 with commitments for 52 firm orders and 40 options; its maiden flight was on January 10, 1990 MD-11F (53 built): the Freight transport aircraft was the second variant on offer at launch in 1986 and was the last and longest (1988–2000) manufactured version.

Lockheed L1011 TriStar by Just Flight PJ-CDY Caribbean Direct livery TEXTURES ONLY Requires the Lockheed TriStar by Just Flight The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, commonly referred to as the L-1011 (pronounced 'L-ten-eleven') or TriStar, is a medium-to-long-range, wide-body trijet airliner by Lockheed Corporation. It was the third wide-body airliner to enter commercial operations, after the Boeing 747 and the McDonnell Douglas DC-10. The airliner has a seating capacity up to 400 passengers and a range over 4,000 nautical miles (7,410 km).

Its trijet configuration has three Rolls-Royce RB211 engines with one engine under each wing, and a third engine, center-mounted with an S-duct air inlet embedded in the tail and the upper fuselage. The aircraft has an autoland capability, an automated descent control system, and available lower deck galley and lounge facilities. The L-1011 TriStar was produced in two fuselage lengths. The original L-1011-1 first flew in November 1970, and entered service with Eastern Air Lines in 1972. The shortened, longer range L-1011-500 first flew in 1978, and entered service with British Airways a year later.

The original-length TriStar was also produced as the high gross weight L-1011-100, up-rated engine L-1011-200, and further upgraded L-1011-250. Post-production conversions for the L-1011-1 with increased takeoff weights included the L-1011-50 and L-1011-150. Development of the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar began in 1966 when American Airlines announced a need for a short to medium-range, large-capacity transport. In March of 1968, production began when Lockheed received orders for their design from TWA and Eastern Airlines. Although Production was slowed when Rolls- Royce, the developer of the L1011's engines, was forced to declare bankruptcy, Lockheed managed to deliver the Tristar for operation with Eastern and TWA in 1972.

A lengthy development program following the Concorde's first flight on March 2 1969 meant that it did not enter into airline service until January 1976. A total of 20 aircraft were built in France and the United Kingdom. The 128 seat Concorde was the first airliner to have a fly-by-wire flight-control system, double-delta wings and a droop nose system. Because of the way Concorde's delta-wing generated lift, the undercarriage had to be unusually strong. At rotation, Concorde would rise to a high angle of attack, about 18 degrees. Due to the high angle needed at rotation, a small set of wheels were added aft to prevent tailstrikes.

The rear main undercarriage units need to retract telescopically before swinging in order to clear each other when stowed. On May 30 2003 the last commercial Air France flight landed back at Paris Charles de Gaulle from New York. The very last flight for Air France was made on June 27 2003 when F-BVFC flew from Paris to its place of construction in Toulouse for preservation. The Piper PA-28 Cherokee is a series of Light Four Seated Aircraft.

In 1967 Piper first introduced PA-28R-180 Cherokee Arrow which featured a constant speed propeller and retractable landing gear. The engine was powered by 180 Horsepower Lycoming O-360 engines.

In 1969 the engine was upgraded to 200 horsepower, and the designation of the aircraft was changed to PA-28R-200. Changes to the design included the same 12.7cm stretched fuselage that was introduced on the Cherokee Challenger and Cherokee Charger. With greater rear legroom and more baggage capacity, it is larger than its predecessors and has a larger horizontal tail and dorsal fin fillet. Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia G-UKDH After the success of the EMB-110 Bandeirante, suggestions from prospective operators were collected and incorporated into the EMB-120 design, named Brasilia in 1979 and the capacity was increased to 30 seats. Originally designed to utilise the new 1500SHP Pratt & Whitney Canada PW115 Turboprop, this was later upgraded to the 1892 ESHP PW118.

Probably the closest to a modern replacement for the DC-3 (with double the speed), the Brasilia attracted immediate interest from many regional airlines, particularly in the USA. The size, speed and ceiling allowed faster and more direct services around the US and Europe, compared to similar aircraft. Serial production ended in 2001. As of 2007, it is still available for one-off orders, as it shares much of the production equipment with the, which is still produced. When Fairchild exited the aircraft manufacturing business in 1985 after about 40 units, Saab continued aircraft production under the designation 340A and 159 units were built. The first improved development of the Saab 340 was the 340B.

More powerful engines improved hot and high performance, while other changes included a greater span tailplane, a higher max takeoff weight and better range. All the 340Bs also had the active noise control system.

200 units were built with deliveries beginning in September 1989. The final third generation version, the 340B Plus, was delivered for service in 1994 and incorporated improvements that were being introduced at the same time in the Saab 2000. 100 units were built. The production run of Saab 340s typically seated between 30 and 36 passengers, with 34 seats being the most common configuration. The Saab 340A & 340B are in service worldwide with small airlines and with larger airlines in the commuter/feeder role.

Douglas started the race with the DC-4, but Lockheed countered with the L049, which was faster and was pressurised. The war surplus DC-4's were cheap, though, and Lockheed was handicapped by a provision in the TWA contract that it couldn't sell a Connie to a competing East-West airline for two years. The development of the larger, faster, and pressurized DC-6 lead Lockheed to introduce the next step in airliners, the Super Constellation. Stretched by over 18 feet and powered by Wright R-3350 radials (eventually Turbo-Compounds of 3400 hp each), the new Super Connie was faster and could fly higher than the DC-6.

Of course, Douglas was not standing still, and American convinced them to produce the DC-7 with the Wright Turbo-Compound engines, and now the speed advantage belonged to Douglas.. Low operational costs and almost no competition in the 100-seat short-range class made it a best seller when it was introduced in the late 1980s, but sales later decayed due to increasing competition from the likes of Bombardier and Embraer. Production ended in 1997 with 283 airframes delivered.

In August 2009, 229 Fokker 100 aircraft remained in airline service with 47 airlines around the world. Max cruising speed 845km/h (456kt), long range cruising speed 737km/h (453kt).

Uses FS9 default sounds, and panel. The A319 is a minimum change, shortened derivative of the highly successful A320. After healthy sales of the A320/A321, Airbus turned its focus back to what was then known as the A320M-7, meaning A320 minus seven rows of seats.

It provides direct competition for the Boeing 737–500/600. The A320 family share a wider fuselage than the competing Boeing and has a thinner, longer wing for fuel efficiency. The A319 has the longest range of any type in its size range. Other changes included reducing overwing exits from four to two and a smaller aft cargo door.

Minor software programming changes were made to accommodate the different handling characteristics but otherwise the A319 shares the same fly-by-wire flight controls and state-of-the-art cockpit as the other A320 Family members meaning the A319, A320 and A321 can all be flown by pilots with the same type rating. The A319 flew for the first time on August 25 1995 from Hamburg in Germany. As of February 2012 there are 1,324 A319’s in service around the world with sales outstripping the A321.

The largest of the A320 family the A321 was the first derivative of the successful A320, the major change being a stretched fuselage acheived by two fuselage plugs. Other differences include larger engines and tyres, strengthened undercarriage and some wing improvements. The cockpit remains the same and shares the same pilot type rating.

The A321-100 was the first stretch of the A320 but as the fuel tanks were unchanged it had a shorter range so Airbus soon launched the -200 with additional fuel tanks. The A321-200 flew for the first time in December 1996 from Hamburg in Germany. There are 704 in service with orders for an additional 420 (correct as of March 2012).

The Airbus A340 is a long-range four-engine wide-body designed as a replacement for the Boeing 747-200. First flight of the A340-600 was made on 23 April 2001. The -600 is the longest-fuselage jetliner ever built by Airbus, and the largest-capacity member of the A340 family with an overall length of 75.3 metres, it has a seating capacity for 360 passengers in a three-class layout, or 419 in a two-class configuration, is more than four meters longer than the Boeing 747-400 and 2.3 meters (7 ft 6.6 in) longer than the A380.

It held the record for being the world's longest commercial aircraft until February 2010 until the first flight of the Boeing 747-8. The A340-600 is powered by four 56,000 lbf (249.1 kN) thrust Rolls-Royce Trent 556 turbofans and uses the Honeywell 331–600 APU.

It also has an additional four-wheel undercarriage on the fuselage centre-line to cope with the increased MTOW. Airbus has made provisions for freeing additional upper deck main cabin space by providing optional arrangements for additional facilities such as crew rest areas, galleys, and lavatories upon the 'stretched' A340 aircraft's lower deck. The A340 is used on long-haul, trans-oceanic routes due to its immunity from ETOPS; however, with reliability in engines improving, airlines are progressively phasing out the type in favour of more economical twinjets such as the Boeing 777.

FSX package available separately. The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by the European corporation Airbus, a subsidiary of EADS. It is the world's largest passenger airliner and due to its size, many airports have had to expand their facilities to properly accommodate it. Designed to challenge Boeing's monopoly in the large-aircraft market, the A380 made its maiden flight on 27 April 2005 and entered initial commercial service in October 2007 with Singapore Airlines. The aircraft was known as the Airbus A3XX during much of its development, before receiving the A380 designation. Speculation in the mainstream and gaming media was that future versions could be released as an Internet-based version, or on Microsoft's platform. In October 2009, two (out of over 50) former members of the Aces Studio, formed a new game studio called the Cascade Game Foundry for the development of simulation games.

P3D - Lockheed Martin Prepar3D [ ] In 2009 Lockheed Martin announced that they had negotiated with Microsoft to purchase the intellectual property (including source code) for the Microsoft ESP (Enterprise Simulation Platform) product. Microsoft ESP is the commercial-use version of 'Flight Simulator X SP2'.

On May 17, 2010, Lockheed announced that the new product based upon the ESP source code would be called Lockheed Martin Prepar3D. Lockheed hired members of the original ACES Studio team to continue development of the product. Version 1.1 was released in April 2011, with a retail license cost of US$499. A developer license is also available for a monthly fee of US$9.95. In March 2012, along with the release of version 1.3, the pricing strategy was revised.

The Professional edition is now available for US$199, with an Academic License available for US$59.95. After the release of Version 2 in 2013, and Version 3 in 2015, the team released its newest version, the 4th, in May 2017, featuring a 64-bit base program. Dovetail Games [ ] On July 9, 2014, announced that Microsoft had granted them rights to develop the next Flight Simulator in the series. Dovetail Games also announced the release of Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition on for late 2014, named Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition. Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition was released on 18 December 2014, and is a re-release of the FSX Gold Edition, which includes the Deluxe and Acceleration packs and both Service Packs.

It includes 'all standard Steam functionality', and replaces the multiplayer system with Steam's multiplayer system. Version history [ ].

Main article: Flight Simulator X is the most recent version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. It includes a graphics engine upgrade and compatibility with preview and. It was released on October 17, 2006, in North America. There are two versions of the game, both on two DVDs. The 'Deluxe' edition contains the new integrated flight instrument system in three cockpits, additional aircraft, and missions, Tower Control capability in multiplayer mode, higher detail scenery for cities and airports and a Software Development Kit (SDK) for development. The main improvements are graphical. Microsoft has also released a Flight Simulator X Demo, which contains three aircraft, two airports, and two missions.

It is compatible with Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista. On December 18, 2014, released Flight Simulator X on titled Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition.

It includes content that was provided with the original FSX: Gold Edition which includes FSX: Deluxe Edition, the Acceleration expansion pack and both official Service Packs and repackages them in one bundle and a single installation. The Steam Edition includes an overhaul of the multiplayer support to go through Steam rather than the now-defunct, improved stability on and, and features minor performance tweaks including a complete recompile using. Additionally, Dovetail Games has worked with existing developers and publishers to distribute their content on Steam as DLC. Currently, there are over 100 add-ons for FSX: Steam Edition from over 35 developers available on the Steam store including Aerosoft,, Orbx Simulation Systems, Real Environment Xtreme (REX), Carenado, Virtavia, and others. See also: The long history and consistent popularity of Flight Simulator has encouraged a very large body of add-on packages to be developed as both commercial and volunteer ventures. A formal and other tools for the simulator exist to further facilitate third-party efforts, and some third parties have also learned to 'tweak' the simulator in various ways by trial and error. As for number of add-ons, tweaks, and modifications FS can accommodate solely depends on the users hardware setup. The number is not limited by the simulator, and when multiple computers are linked together with multiple monitors and 3rd party software and controls, Flight Sim Enthusiasts can build their own realistic home cockpits.

A PMDG of 'American Flight Airways'; in AFA Express colors Individual attributes of Flight Simulator aircraft that can be customized include: cockpit layout, cockpit image, aircraft model, aircraft model textures, aircraft flight characteristics, scenery models, scenery layouts and scenery textures, often with simple-to-use programs, or only a text editor such as 'Notepad'. Dedicated 'flightsimmers' have taken advantage of Flight Simulator's vast add-on capabilities, having successfully linked Flight Simulator to homebuilt hardware, some of which approaches the complexity of commercial full-motion flight simulators. The simulator's aircraft are made up of five parts: • The model, which is a 3D CAD-style model of the aircraft's exterior and virtual cockpit, if applicable. Models consist of two distinct sections - the main chassis or 'core', and accessories or dynamic parts, such as the landing gear or ailerons. • The textures, bitmap images which the game layers onto the model.

These can be easily edited (known as repainting), so that a model can adopt any paint scheme imaginable, fictional or real. • The sounds, literally what the aircraft sounds like. This is determined by defining which WAV files the aircraft uses as its sound-set. • The panel, a representation of the aircraft's cockpit. This includes one or more bitmap images of the panel, instrument gauge files, and sometimes its own sounds.

• The FDE, or Flight Dynamics Engine. This consists of the airfile (a *.air file), which contains hundreds of parameters that define the aircraft's flight characteristics, and the aircraft.cfg file, which contains more and easier-to-edit parameters. Most versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator include some of the world's most popular aircraft from different categories, such as the Mooney Bravo and Beechcraft Baron 58, which fall into the general aviation category, the Airbus A321 and Boeing 737, which fall into the civil jets category, the Robinson R22, which falls into the helicopter category, the Air Scheffel 738, which falls into the general aviation category again, and many other planes commonly used around the world.

Not being limited to using the default aircraft, add-on planes can be downloaded from many sources for free or purchased, which can then be installed into Microsoft Flight Simulator. The Beechcraft 1900D pictured above, is an add-on aircraft. AI traffic [ ] A growing add-on category for the series is AI () Traffic. AI Traffic is the simulation of other vehicles in the FS landscape. This traffic plays an important role in the simulator, as it is possible to crash into traffic (this can be disabled), thus ending your session, and to interact with the traffic via the radio and ATC. This feature is active even with 3rd party traffic.

Microsoft introduced AI traffic in MSFS 2002 with several airliners and private aircraft. This has since been supplemented with many files created by third party developers. Typically, third party aircraft models have multiple levels of detail, which allow the AI traffic to be better on frame rates, while still being detailed during close looks.

There are several prominent freeware developers. Some third party AI traffic can even be configured for 'real time' departures.

FS2004 in the UK with (Visual Flight Rules) photo scenery and terrain additional components Scenery add-ons usually involve replacements for existing airports, with enhanced and more accurate detail, or large expanses of highly detailed ground scenery for specific regions of the world. Some types of scenery add-on replace or add structures to the simulator. Both freeware and payware scenery add-ons are very widely available. Airport enhancements, for example, range from simple add-ons that update runways or taxiways to very elaborate packages that reproduce every lamp, pavement marking, and structure at an airport with near-total accuracy, including animated effects such as baggage cars or marshalling agents. Wide-area scenery enhancements may use detailed satellite photos and 3-D structures to closely reproduce real-world regions, particularly those including large cities, landmarks, or spectacular natural wonders. Flight networks [ ] Virtual flight networks such as, and as well as use special, small add-on modules for Flight Simulator to enable connection to their proprietary networks in multiplayer mode, and to allow for voice and text communication with other virtual pilots and controllers over the network. These networks allow players to enjoy and enhance realism in their game.

These networks are for ATC (air traffic control). Miscellaneous [ ] Some utilities, such as FSUIPC, merely provide useful tweaks for the simulator to overcome design limitations or bugs, or to allow more extensive interfacing with other third-party add-ons. Sometimes certain add-ons require other utility add-ons in order to work correctly with the simulator. Other add-ons provide navigation tools, simulation of passengers, and cameras that can view aircraft or scenery from any angle, more realistic instrument panels and gauges, and so on. Some software add-ons provide operability with specific hardware, such as game controllers and optical motion sensors. Is one website that host a forum style knowledge base aimed at the development of add-on items, tools, and software. Availability [ ] A number of websites are dedicated to providing users with add-on files (such as airplanes from actual, airport utility cars, actual buildings located in specific cities, textures, and city files).

The wide availability over the internet of freeware add-on files for the simulation package has encouraged the development of a large and diverse virtual community, linked up by design group and enthusiast message boards, online multiplayer flying, and '. The internet has also facilitated the distribution of 'payware' add-ons for the simulator, with the option of downloading the files, which reduces distribution costs. Reception [ ] in January 1983 called Flight Simulator 'extraordinarily realistic. A classic program, unique in the market'. It praised the graphics and detailed scenery, and concluded 'I think it's going to, and will certainly sell some '. In December 1983 wrote that 'this amazing package does an incredible job of making you think you're actually flying a small plane'. While it noted the inability to use a or a joystick, the magazine concluded that 'for $49.95 you can't have everything'.

A pilot wrote in the magazine in March 1984 that he found the simulated Cessna 182 to be 'surprisingly realistic'. While criticizing the requirement of using the keyboard to fly, he concluded ' Microsoft Fight Simulator is a tour de force of the programmer's art. It can be an excellent introduction to how an aircraft actually operates for a budding or student pilot and can even help instrument pilots or those going for an instrument rating sharpen their skills'. Another pilot similarly praised Flight Simulator in PC Magazine that year, giving it 18 out of 18 points. He reported that its realism compared well to two $3 million hardware flight simulators he had recently flown, and that he could use real to land at and navigate airports Flight Simulator 's manual did not document.

Warned 'if you don't know much about flying, this program may overwhelm you. It's not a simple simulation. It's a challenging program even for experienced pilots'.

The magazine concluded that Flight Simulator 'is interesting, challenging, graphically superb, diverse, rewarding, and just plain fun. Sheer delight'. Microsoft Flight Simulator, Version 2.0 was reviewed in 1989 in #142 by Hartley, Patricia, and Kirk Lesser in 'The Role of Computers' column. The reviewers gave the game 5 out of 5 stars.

Stated in 1994 that Flight Simulator 5 'is closer to simulating real flight than ever before'. 'Microsoft Flight Simulator X' was reviewed in 2006. The reviewer gave the game an 8.4 out of 10 and commented on how it was realistic enough to be used for real-life flight training. Awards [ ] The success of the Microsoft Flight Simulator series has led to Guinness World Records awarding the series seven world records in the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008. These records include 'Longest Running Flight Sim Series', 'Most Successful Flight Simulator Series', and 'Most Expensive Home Flight Simulator Cockpit', which was built by Australian trucking tycoon Matthew Sheil, and cost around $200,000 to build.
